Our new song “Strange Images” is streaming everywhere now. It's one of my favorite songs we've released yet.
And we have a new album “You Never Say Goodbye When You Leave” coming at the end of February. As you may have noticed, we tend to revolve our records around a subject. When we started recording, the songs were only half-finished, and I purposefully tried not to have a theme...but one persisted.
Theological exploration and uncertainty has been a constant refrain across all our albums. We've never had a “theme” that focused on it, mostly due to the fact that it's just too much a part of how I think and who I am, for better or for worse.
As the songs came together, we soon realized they were angry. I was angry. But it was a flailing kind of anger. The kind of anger in the second stage of grief, which lashes out and tries to harm all in its path. Not necessarily unjustified, but certainly aimless.
And in these songs, the anger was clearly directed at God (or some version of It). Most (maybe all) of them are speaking directly to God, or the idea of God, and screaming all kinds of angry accusations and slander, mostly in the form of “Why?”.
The absence of any concrete answers is angering, as is the fact that I'm not even sure God's there. I believed and followed Him my whole life, and now he has the audacity to not exist?
It's a messy, eclectic, furious album of profound disappointment which finds comfort in doubt itself.
You can pre-order the vinyl on Bandcamp. Tour dates coming soon. Watch the "Strange Images" music video now.
